Ryan Green Breaks Through With First GSPSS Win At Riverside

Ryan Green Breaks Through With First GSPSS Win At Riverside
By Jeff Brown, for Granite State Pro Stock Series
GROVETON, N.H. – From the flagstand to the score sheets to the winner’s circle, Saturday was a Green kind of night at Riverside Speedway.
Ryan Green started on the pole and led wire-to-wire to earn a long-awaited first Granite State Pro Stock Series win on Milton CAT Night at the Groveton, N.H. quarter-mile.
The Berwick, Me. native mastered the high-banked bullring, topping the practice charts and his heat race in advance of the feature. Reigning champion Travis Benjamin, who won last year’s tilt at “Grovetona,” won the second heat and lined up outside Green for the start of the feature.
Benjamin was the only one who could match Green’s torrid race pace, as the field reeled off 100 green-flag laps in a brisk twenty minutes. Benjamin was within a half-second of Green’s bumper with plenty of time to charge, but Green stretched out his advantage in the final laps, crossing the line .831 seconds ahead of the decorated veteran.
Green’s win came at the wheel of his own car, repaired after a late-June crash forced him to borrow a ride for two races. The borrowed ride came from longtime friend and two-time GSPSS titlist Joey Doiron, who was in the pits as Green’s crew chief for the night.
Rookie Cole Robie impressed in only his second GSPSS start after a respectable performance at Lee USA Speedway two weeks ago. The third-generation racer finished third to pick up his first career Pro Stock podium.
Casey Call debuted his new car with a fourth-place finish, stealing one from title rival Evan Beaulieu in the closing laps. Beaulieu recovered from a brief off-track excursion to round out the top five.
Despite the bobble, Beaulieu still leads the standings over Call with two races to go to settle the championship honors.
Up next for the Granite State Pro Stock Series is a month-long recess before the series’ return to Speedway 95 in Hermon, Me. in September. More details on the penultimate race in this year’s GSPSS title showdown will be released shortly.
