“The Outlaw” Locks Out Lee Challengers, Call Clinches Championship In Bosowski Properties 125

LEE, N.H. – Eddie MacDonald had a different look Sunday afternoon at Lee USA Speedway. But out on the track, he was the same old “Outlaw.”
MacDonald dominated the Bosowski Properties 125, the final event of the 2024 Granite State Pro Stock Series season, picking up his fourth career GSPSS win and his first since 2019.
And two positions behind him on the track, Casey Call finished third to edge out rival Evan Beaulieu for the GSPSS championship.
Sunday’s race headlined the second race day of Russ Conway’s Oktoberfest, the traditional season-ending spectacular at the coastal New Hampshire oval. With a $6,500 winner’s purse up for grabs, a stacked field turned out for a perfect autumn day at the track.
Wheeling the No. 50 in a one-off start for car owner Dale Drew, MacDonald blistered the oval to take the pole at his home track. MacDonald fell to fourth as multi-time Lee track champion Wayne Helliwell, Jr. led the opening circuits, with Nick Cusack knocking on the door of the top spot.
Cusack got the better of Helliwell on a lap-25 restart, and MacDonald went to work from there. The veteran racer from Rowley, Mass. only needed a dozen laps to get around Cusack, driving away once he passed the Maine native for the lead.
In MacDonald’s mirror, meanwhile, the title race unfolded lap by lap. Call started eighth to Beaulieu’s 11th, needing to make up 21 points by the end of the night. As Call moved forward, Beaulieu slipped back in traffic, losing ground and points to Call. Beaulieu took advantage of a late yellow to pit, trying to regain the speed he had tipped off earlier in the afternoon.
But on a lap-93 restart, another car bobbled and came down into Beaulieu’s right front fender, flattening a tire and all but burying Beaulieu’s defense of the points lead. Call had already climbed to third as Beaulieu’s team threw a new tire on to finish the race.
Out front, MacDonald pulled out to a lead as Mike Mitchell diced his way to second. Call rode in third, with Cory Casagrande charging from the back of the field to run fourth. As Casagrande tested Call for the podium, Beaulieu clung to the tail of the lead lap, jockeying for any points he could make up.
But there was no catching MacDonald, who cruised to his fourth career GSPSS win, his first since 2019, and his first on a track shorter than a half-mile. Car owner Dale Drew celebrated his first series win since 2022.
Mitchell, a longtime GSPSS supporter, held on to finish second, his first GSPSS podium since winning at Riverhead Raceway in 2017. Call fended off Casagrande for third, earning his first podium finish since July. Joey Polewarczyk rounded out the top five.
Early leader Nick Cusack was sixth at the finish after a late pit stop, with fifteen-year-old rookie Sylas Ripley in seventh. July Lee winner Corey Bubar was eighth, ahead of 2024 Lee Pro Stock champion Brandon Barker. Helliwell faded through the pack to finish tenth.
Beaulieu ended a tough evening in 14th. Call’s third-place run was enough for the Pembroke, N.H. prodigy to overcome his deficit, giving Call the championship by just one point over Beaulieu.
Call is the eleventh different champion in GSPSS history, joining Bobby Cabral, Derek Griffith, Polewarczyk and Gabe Brown in representing the series’ namesake Granite State. While a hard wreck in July threatened to derail Call’s season altogether, the team rebounded with a new car and the results down the stretch to wrest the points lead back.
The GSPSS concludes its thirteenth season of competition with eight different winners in nine races, with three New England states and four past GSPSS titles represented in the winner’s circle. GSPSS president Mike Parks and his staff extend their appreciation to the tracks, the teams, and the fans that make this series possible, and look forward to announcing the series’ plans for the 2025 season.
