Granite State Pro Stock Series Drivers Open Their Helmets and Hearts at Monadnock Speedway

June 6, 2014

Winchester, NH-              The Granite State Pro Stock Series drivers completed 100 laps at Monadnock Speedway Saturday night, but what they did off the track may be more important.

The entire field of drivers in attendance wielded helmets in between local division feature events to raise money for 8 year-old Allen Hinckley, son of veteran Modified racer Les Hinckley.  Allen just recently returned from a 17-day stay at Connecticut Children’s Hospital and a recent two-week stay at Boston Children’s Hospital where he underwent his third surgical procedure for a Congenital Arachnoid Cyst.

Arachnoid cysts are rare, and the cause of which are unknown.  In Allen’s case, the young boy had surgery to put a shunt and valve system in his head to relieve pressure to his brain.  With this unfortunate situation, the family has spent time away from work and a large chunk of time in hospitals, putting a huge strain on the Hinckley family.

The GSPSS drivers were asked if they could help at Monadnock Speedway, and the drivers answered the call.  Dressed in full gear, drivers grabbed their helmets and visited the crowd, gathering donations for the family.  In just a short amount of time, the GSPSS took in $1,250.35 for the Hinckley family.

2013 series champion Mike O’Sullivan was touched by the collection.  “I know Les pretty well and he is a good guy,” O’Sullivan stated.  “We've had conversations about how racing is secondary to family, and wouldn't sacrifice something for our boys, to race ourselves. I hope that Allen will get better, and pray for all the best for Les and his family.”

The support does not stop with the GSPSS.  Seekonk Grand Prix proprietor Wayne Darling, a longtime race car owner, will open early this Saturday, June 7, and donate all money taken in between 9:00 AM and 2:00 PM to help the Hinckley family.  Also, Saturday, June 7 at Sonny’s Place, 349 Main St, Somers, CT., there will be a special event dubbed “Come Support Allen” with music, dancing, food, and beverages. Tickets are $25 per person. The event will be held from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

The entire staff, drivers, and fans wish Allen and the Hinckley family the best, and hope this small fundraiser helps in the fight against this unfortunate ordeal.
