Matt Frahm Adds Another Trophy to the Mantel
WINCHESTER, NH – Matt Frahm took advantage of a tangle between the first and second place cars, inheriting the lead on lap 31, and powering to the victory in the JBH 100 at Monadnock Speedway.
Adam Norton took advantage of his pole position starting spot, as the Ludlow, MA driver would lead the first quarter of the race. A chain reaction incident on lap 24 would send Derek Griffith careening into turn one, damaging the spoiler of his automobile. Norton would hold off Frahm on two consecutive restarts, before Mike O’Sullivan joined the mix, getting under Norton and battling for the lead. On lap 31, O’Sullivan and Norton spun in turn four, sending both cars to the back of the pack.
Frahm would find himself on the point on the restart, with Josh King to his outside. Frahm repeatedly fended off challengers, until a restart on lap 68, when Mike Parks gave Frahm a run for his money. Parks would edge ahead on the outside and lead lap 70, with the two exchanging the lead for the next few laps. Frahm would prevail, and would retain the lead.
Four-time Granite State Pro Stock Series feature winner Barry Gray would spin on lap 91, bringing out the seventh and final caution of the night, and setting up a nine lap shootout. Frahm would get the lead for the final time on the restart, and picked up the victory.
“We had a real good battle with Parks on the outside, but ended up coming through with the win,” commented Frahm. “We have had really fast cars, but we’ve had a lot of mechanical issues. It’s just been one of those years.”
Parks would hold off a late charge from Larry Gelinas to finish second. The podium finish means a lot to Parks, as the JBH 100 is run in memory of series co-founder John Hoyt, and was a close friend to Parks.
Parks mentioned “This is the second time we’ve finished second in this race. It’s special, we’ll take it, but we’ll get one of them. This is the one we look forward to every year.”
Gelinas would settle for the third spot, saying “It was a decent run, but just didn’t quite have the car to beat the first two. I was hoping to be a little lucky this time and sneak in there, but it was fun.”
Mike O’Sullivan and Scott MacMichael engaged in battle in the closing laps, with O’Sullivan taking the fourth spot, and MacMichael grabbing fifth in his Granite State Pro Stock Series debut. Derek Griffith battled back to nab the sixth spot, with Barry Gray right behind him in seventh. Josh King, Nick Boivin, and Matt Zenisky completed the top ten. Griffith and O’Sullivan picked up heat wins.
The Granite State Pro Stock Series will be back in action on August 23, at Hudson International Speedway, as the series heads into the final stretch of the season. For more information on the Granite State Pro Stock Series, visit www.gspss.net.
