Squeglia Set To Score Three Peat At Star Classic

Two years in a row, Joe Squeglia of Derry, NH has been the Star Classic champion. Squeglia's winning percentage with GSPSS at local venues such as Star Speedway and Lee USA Speedway is nearly 100%. This Saturday, September 8th at Star Speedway in Epping, NH it is quite possible that Squeglia could go for the three peat. But some young guns that have gained experience in the past year could foil Squeglia's plans. John Peters of Westbrook, ME will be back to attempt to improve on last years second place podium result after heartbreak at the Oxford 250 just a few weeks ago. Jimmy Renfrew Jr also looks to defend his home turf of Star Speedway where he and his team have cut their teeth moving up through the ranks. Last year at this event Renfrew earned the O'Reilly Auto Parts hard charger award as he started 18th and finished 10th.

Cory Casagrande of Stafford Springs, CT has held the points lead throughout the majority of the 2018 season yet, still looks for his first trip to victory lane. With his lead at a solid 10 points, a win at Star Speedway would certainly help maintain first place in the standings. Just behind, the points are tight between second and third with Joey Doiron of Berwick, ME and just two points behind Doiron, Devin O'Connell of Madison, CT third.

The action packed schedule of the Star Classic weekend will change race day procedure up just slightly for the GSPSS. “The final 15 minute open practice will also serve as a time trial session to set heat placement” series President Mike Parks said. “We've found that time trialing for heats has really given us a better product on track, and last weeks Rocky Ridge 150 at Claremont Speedway was a perfect example of that.”
