Granite State Pro Stock Series To Headline Sunday Portion of Lee USA Speedway Octoberfest Weekend

WALPOLE, N.H. -- It’s time for the Fall season in New England, and that means some of the biggest weekends of short-track racing are about ready to get underway.

This Friday-Sunday, Lee USA Speedway will showcase more than 12 different divisions of racing over three days in their annual Octoberfest weekend.

On Sunday, October 3, the Granite State Pro Stock Series will run their penultimate race of the season, set for 100 laps around the New Hampshire oval. In what will end up being the first and only visit to Lee this year, after a summer rainout, some of the top Super Late Model challengers from New England are heading to Lee looking to take Gabe Brown off his momentum roll.

Brown, who leads the series points standings by 58 heading to Lee, will need a finish of third or better -- no matter what anyone else does -- to seal his first career championship, one race early. On the heels of a $10,000 victory at Claremont Motorsports Park in the summer, Brown has been on a roll lately behind the wheel of his Dale Shaw Race Cars entry. Since Claremont, the rising star has been strong at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway and Star Speedway.

In fact, strong might be an understatement when it comes to Star on September 17. Brown dominated the 56th annual Star Classic 100, jumping out front and driving away to a lead of a whole straightaway over the rest of the field. However, in the final few laps, a flat right-front tire ended his efforts, costing him his second career win. That disappointment won’t transfer to Lee -- as Brown will look to come out of the box strong in practice and end the day with a win -- and the title.

He will have a large list of challengers looking to take him off that top rope.

Joey Doiron, the beneficiary of Brown’s misfortune at Star, is looking for his second straight series win, while Bryan Kruczek, a winner at Star in May, will join him on the list of favorites. Names like Wayne Helliwell Jr., Devin O’Connell, Casey Call, Josh King, Evan Beaulieu, Rusty Poland and Tyler Tomassi have also registered.

Look out for Jimmy Renfrew Jr., as he makes his return to Pro Stock competition coming off a big Street Stock win last weekend, while most recent series winner Joey Doiron will look to make it two straight checkered flags. Names like Kevin Casper, Bobby Cabral, Mike Mitchell, Cody LeBlanc and others have also shown intentions of running at Lee.

The Granite State Pro Stock Series portion of Octoberfest will be a one-day show, all on Sunday. Practice is set to begin just after 12 p.m., with qualifying scheduled for just after 2 p.m. The 100-lap feature is set to be the last race of the day on Sunday afternoon, ending the Lee USA Speedway season in style. For those who can’t make it to the track, the GSPSS portion of the day will air live on Speed51.TV.
