Sorel Scores First Career GSPSS Win In Series’ Stafford Return

STAFFORD SPRINGS, CONN. - Jeremy Sorel made a season-opening statement in Saturday’s Casagrande Builders 75, the lidlifter for the Granite State Pro Stock Series’ 2026 itinerary.

A dominant drive earned Sorel his first career GSPSS win on Opening Day of the Connecticut oval’s 54th Spring Sizzler.

Saturday’s prelude to “The Greatest Race in the History of Spring” marked the GSPSS’ first visit to Stafford since 2021 and its second-ever appearance at the track. Sorel, the 2014 Stafford SK Light Modified track champion, was not in attendance in 2021.

Nevertheless, the Westfield, Mass. veteran topped the charts in practice, then drew the pole alongside heat winner Eddie MacDonald. “The Outlaw” tested Sorel for the top spot early, but Sorel ultimately held the lead through a calamitous opening sequence that eventually left heat winner Cory Casagrande sidelined and title hopeful Evan Beaulieu with damage that would prove terminal.

Former champion and 2021 Stafford winner Joey Polewarczyk moved to second in pursuit of Sorel’s fast car, but “Joey Pole” fell off the pace around halfway, dropping back to fourth behind Vermonter Jimmy Hebert and home-track Modified racer David Arute.

Arute, wheeling a second car from the Casagrande Motorsports stable, slipped past Hebert for second. But Sorel was on rails, extending his lead to over six seconds with the checkered flag in sight.

Ultimately, Sorel crossed under the checkered flags 6.416 seconds ahead of the field to claim his first touring Pro Stock win and his first with the GSPSS, after falling short by inches to D.J. Shaw in 2024.

Arute held on for second, a stellar performance in his Pro Stock debut. Hebert, a decorated driver making his first GSPSS start, rounded out the podium.

Tom Carey III rebounded from an early spin to finish fourth, with Angelo Belsito fifth.

Polewarczyk faded to sixth at the finish, ahead of New York’s Michael Scorzelli, MacDonald, 2024 champion Casey Call and Maine rookie Matt Beers.

The Granite State Pro Stock Series teams have a month to prepare for the season’s next event at Claremont (N.H.) Motorsports Park on Sunday, May 24. Details on the second race of the 2026 season will be forthcoming.
