St. Clair Surprises GSPSS Regulars With Speedway 95 Victory

By Jeff Brown, for Granite State Pro Stock Series

HERMON, ME. – In his Granite State Pro Stock Series debut a month ago, Josh St. Clair’s podium performance showcased his potential. Saturday night, he backed up that potential with a winning drive.

St. Clair held off points leader Travis Benjamin to win the Coastal Auto Parts 100 at Speedway 95, taking the $3,000 victory in only his second series start.

Logan Melcher and Evan Beaulieu led the field to green, but it was St. Clair who was stout down the stretch. The Liberty, Maine racer, who finished third behind Garrett Hall and local favorite Mike Hopkins in July’s Go FAS Racing 100, put his Wiscasset Speedway experience to work on the Hermon, Maine third-mile.

Benjamin came up short of nabbing his first Speedway 95 trophy, but the veteran racer maintained his advantage in the standings as the season draws closer to the finish.

Title rival Brandon Barker was third, with Hopkins and outside polesitter Evan Beaulieu rounding out the top five.

The next race on the Granite State Pro Stock Series calendar is at Star Speedway, when the series visits “The Place To Race” to open Star Classic Weekend on Friday, September 15. The Outside Groove Saloon 100 not only launches the biggest weekend of the year for the Epping, N.H. bullring, but will set the stage for the GSPSS’ championship finale at Lancaster Speedway one week later.
